Something wrong?
If someone is passing off a photo, voice clip or video as you, or running an account in your name, this is how to use what you've built here.
You haven't sealed any reference recordings yet. Seal some now, below, so you have a dated record before anything else happens.
- Leave your sealed folder alone. Don't open and re-save, rename or convert anything in it. If you need to send files to someone, copy them out of the folder; unchanged copies still match the seal.
- Save the fake before it disappears: the link, the date, screenshots, and the file itself if you can download it. Keep these away from your sealed folder.
- Report it to the platform it's on, using its impersonation or fake-media form. Use Report a fake account above and we'll give you the right form and the text to paste, then keep checking until it's gone.
- Point people to your page. Your OnlyHere page lists your real accounts, each proved with a one-time code. A short warning on your real channels with that link stops most people from being fooled.
- When someone needs proof of what you really look and sound like, such as a platform, a lawyer, the police or a forensic examiner, give them your latest evidence pack with copies of the sealed files. How to hand it over. The pack shows those files existed, unchanged, no later than the certified date and the Bitcoin block. Anyone can check it with the checker inside the pack, without an OnlyHere account.
- Know what it proves. Your capsule dates your real face and voice. On its own it doesn't prove that the fake is fake; a forensic examiner can compare the fake against your dated originals.
- If the fake is an intimate image, StopNCII.org lets you create a fingerprint of the image on your own device so participating platforms can block it, without anyone seeing the image.
Paste the link to an account or page that pretends to be you. We take a dated screenshot, give you the platform's report form and the text to paste, and recheck it on every scan until it's gone. We never report anything in your name.
Tracking fake accounts you report is part of Watch and Team. On your plan, report it straight to the platform with its impersonation form; the fakes our quarterly scan finds appear below and in your quarterly report, each with the form and the text to paste.
Fake accounts
Verify your identity
We check your ID before any channel can be proved, so a page can only vouch for a real, identified person. Your page shows the name on your ID, or a name you use publicly once it appears on one of your proved channels. It takes about two minutes: a photo of your passport or national ID, then a quick selfie.
The check is run by Didit, our identity provider. It stores your images in the EU and we ask it to delete them as soon as the result reaches us. We keep the result, the name as printed on the ID, the issuing country and the document type, not the images or your date of birth. You need to be 18 or over.
Name on your page
Your page can show the name on your ID, , or a name you use publicly, such as a stage name. A different name has to be the profile name on one of your proved channels; we check that automatically. Every change is listed on your page.
Where you are
A channel goes on your page once we've seen its one-time code on the public profile. Put the code in your bio or channel description, press Check, and take it out again once the channel shows as proved.
Where you're not
Tick the platforms you have no account on. Your page will say that any account there in your name is an impersonation, and our search looks there first.
How you contact people
Pick the ones that are true for you. Only these exact sentences can appear on your page.
Email you send from
Add a domain you own and send email from. We'll give you a DNS record to create; once we can see it, your page says email from you only comes from that domain. Addresses anyone can sign up for, like gmail.com, can't be used.
Reference recordings
A dated record of your real face and voice, for the day someone claims a fake is you. It's timestamped twice, independently: by a certified timestamp authority and in the Bitcoin blockchain.
Set it up before you seal. The folder you seal must never change afterwards, so build it in its final home first.
- Set aside an external drive for this alone: a USB drive, memory card or external hard drive you'll keep unplugged.
- Make one new folder on it and copy in your originals, straight from your camera or phone at full quality (not screenshots, and not files saved from WhatsApp or social media):
- 5 to 10 recent photos of your face, from different angles and in different light, including ones you post;
- 3 to 5 minutes of your own voice, speaking naturally. A voice memo is fine;
- 2 or 3 short videos of you talking to the camera.
- Name and arrange everything now. File names and subfolders can't change after sealing. Leave anything private out of the names.
- Plug the drive in, choose that folder below and seal.
- Download the evidence pack (it appears under your capsule) and save it on the same drive, next to the folder, not inside it.
- When we email you that the Bitcoin proof is complete (usually within a day), download the pack again and keep it next to the first.
- Copy the folder and its packs to a second drive kept somewhere else. Then unplug both and put them away.
Sealing keeps the file names, sizes and fingerprints for 50 years in write-once storage. They can't be deleted before then, even if you close your account. Keeping and using your capsule covers storage, the yearly check and what to do if someone fakes you.
Names we search for
Other handles and names your audience knows you by, one per line. They never appear on your page.
Changes to your page
A dated record of every change to your public page. Only you see this.
